Updates on current issues

Dear all,

The issues which are mainly concerned were about the :

1. Student Smart Card (ID)

Students of January 07/08 intake and the June 08/09 intake are still using their temporary ID card as they are yet to receive their Smart Card (Student ID). Clarifying this matter with the assistant director, Mr. Shukri Bin Saib, he said that the an order of 5000 pieces of empty smartcard has been placed last year to Multimedia Product Innovation Unit (MPU), previously known as CMEAD and they were supposed to receive it by August this year as said by the Senior Director of MPU, Mr. David. Due to unknown reasons (Mr. Shukri will clarify the actual reason) there has been a delay. As a time-being replacement, Temporary Smart Cards (1M chip memory) which is similar to the actual Student Smart Card (4M chip memory) will be distributed. Mr. Shukri added that the temporary Smart Cards should be ready by this week or by end of this month (the actual date will be announced later).

2. Security Personnel

Students have lodged complaints on the securities that are being rude while on duty. International students face communication problems with the securities which eventually lead to an argument. When asked about their attitude problem, Mr. Shukri said the this matter has been discussed with the Director of Security, Mejar (R) Victor Joe Joseph and the campus director, Prof. Omar. They have conducted briefings with the security personnel regarding their attitude. Hopefully, these incidents will not repeat in future.

3. Students Attacked

Following up the incident of the international student attacked in Taman Bukit Beruang, a meeting was held between OCPD and the security division of MMU requesting for more police patrols in Bukit Beruang housing area. Moreover, securities of MMU are doing patrols in areas which are close to MMU (e.g.: Taman Dahlia) using the Emergency Response Unit van.

With Regards,
Students' Representative Council 08/09,
Multimedia University,
Melaka Campus.
